Last year, I had the opportunity to see one of America’s great historical landmarks at my favorite time of the year, Christmas.
We drove a whopping 991 miles across six states to see America’s largest home, the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina.
The construction of the Biltmore home began in 1890. Five years later, George Washington Vanderbilt, moved into his new home shortly before the holiday season.
Christmas traditions were woven in to the Biltmore fabric from the very beginning. For Christmas of 1895, George invited all his immediate family members to Biltmore House to join in the Christmas cheer which included gathering round a forty foot tall Christmas tree! The word grand is an understatement by far!!!
The Estate is BEAUTIFUL anytime of the year, but at Christmas it is SPECTACLAR! If you’ve never been it is well worth a visit at Christmas time!
We opted for the Candlelight Christmas Tour with self-guided audio. Our tour started at dark, but we arrived before sunset to grab some outdoor photos of the Estate entrance. We were greatly rewarded! Look at this place. It’s Magical!!!
It was breathtaking at every turn. Each room had something special to see. Because we opted for the tour with audio accompaniment, it allowed me to gaze and take as many photos as I wanted at my own pace. In each room, the audio tour told a different story with interesting details about the home and the Vanderbilt family. In my opinion the audio tour was well worth the upgrade price.
If I could only pick one word to describe the Biltmore at Christmas, it would be the word opulent. Every bedroom, sitting room and entertaining area was adorned with Christmas trees, twinkling lights, garlands, floral arrangements, and more.
Wow! Can you imagine living like this everyday?!?!? This picture is just ONE END of the the dinning room!
I highly recommend a trip to the Biltmore, and if you never been definatly go at Christmas. It really is a special place to enjoy during the holiday season.
Cheers to Christmas Magic!!! It was SO much fun I had to come home with Biltmore Christmas pajamas!!! Christmas magic is in the air. Can you feel it yet?
